Kenansville Lions Club
Your support of the Kenansville Lions Club Big Buck Round-up enables us to assist and empower blind and visually impaired residents as well as continue our work in preventing vision loss in our North Carolina communities. With help from our sponsors and participating hunters, our club is able to provide the less fortunate in our community with eye exams and glasses. We are also able to help with clinical eye research, the 21st Century mobile screening unit that travels from Murphy to Manteo, Camp Dogwood, and the VIP Fishing Tournament.
The collection of eyeglasses for recycling is an on‐going, year‐round program involving Lions throughout North Carolina. Reusable plastic frame glasses are sent to a Lions Recycling Center where they are cleaned, tested, classified and sent abroad to medical missions and welfare agencies for redistribution. Metal frame glasses and scrap metal are sold to a refinery and the redeemed cash is used to help fund the needs of the visually impaired.
Local Lions Clubs work with NC Lions, Inc. to provide free vision and hearing screenings in communities across the state. NC Lions, Inc. funded the purchase of the Mobile Screening Unit that is scheduled by Lions Clubs throughout the state. Through the early detection of vision problems and education of our citizens we hope eliminate the loss of vision.
Camp Dogwood is a recreational facility, serving the blind and visually impaired citizens of cities and towns across North Carolina. It offers the blind and visually impaired persons an environment that is uniquely designed for their needs. Located on the shores of Lake Norman some of the favorite activities are boating, swimming, fishing, water skiing, and tubing.
